Performance

Performance belongs to the world of poetry, and remains an essential way to explore meaning in our fragile lives. I seek to construct seemingly light works whilst posing profound questions.

My Bones Feel Damp Within Me, February 2025

Resulting in the exhibition installation, my performance was of extracts of Moby Dick whilst painting with wet plaster and then hoisting up the plastic sheeting with a system of ropes and pulleys. The exhibition was brought to a conclusion with a second performance. It offered an existential response to the absurdity of our existence and the Sisyphean task of the creative act.

Transgraphisms, with David Batholomeo, June 2024

Conceived in collaboration with the artist David Bartholomeo as part of the open days programming at Poush in June 2024. We transcribed sounds by Olivier Cans, into pictorial traces and gestures in blind action painting.

Ceci n'est pas un atelier, October 2022

This performative drawing took place in six ‘acts’ over a period of two days, and is a form of self-portrait. I made a large paper mâché rhinoceros head to wear for the performance and the painting reflects on the status of the white rhino, destined to become extinct. Just as we humans are too if we are unable to take adequate action to protect our environment. Can we still face ourselves in the mirror?
