This is from a large series of monoprints exploring the limits of the gestural mark when stripped down to bare elements of black and white, they are the result of much trial and error! With these works I wanted to pare back the noise and reach for the very essence of a feeling, and I see them as closely linked to words and language.
Full of movement, they work as individual pieces, but I feel they make more sense when compiled as sets of two or more pieces together. Just as a single syllable can be its own word and yet part of many more complex words too.
